Use of Ginkgo as a Treatment for Tinnitus

I was a severe tinnitus sufferer as a result of Meniere’s disease. I tried so many things to treat it including Ginkgo for years. Nothing seemed to work for me until one day I read an obscure note in a white paper I found on the web. It suggested that for some people, increasing the daily dosage of Ginkgo to something closer to 250-500mg a day might be beneficial. To this day, I’ve never seen that recommendation made anywhere else, and I’m always checking the latest information when it comes to tinnitus.

Anyway, prior to reading that paper, I had been taking the 120mg/day recommended dose of Ginkgo and saw no relief. I didn’t think there was anything to lose so I tried switching to 2 120mg capsules, one in the morning and one in the evening. After a week or so, no change so I decided to double it to 2 capsules in the morning and 2 in the evening for a total of 480mg/day.

Within three days, my tinnitus was gone. And over the past year and a half, it’s still gone as long as keep up the dosage. There are days when I slip up and miss a dose, and I’ve noticed some slight recurrence at that time. But as soon as I return to my regular dose, the tinnitus disappears again.

Obviously, I’m sold! I don’t know if this would work for anyone else; I’ve read that Ginkgo works for some but not for others. All I can say is, if you’ve tried small doses of Ginkgo to no avail, try moving up to 480mg a day. It can’t hurt, and it may change your life as it has mine.
